Hot Water Extraction
Hot water extraction is the most expensive and technically the most difficult method used to manufacture supplements from medicinal fungi. However, it is also the only scientifically validated method of delivering the needed potency and bio-availability for immune related conditions.
Hot water extraction is recommended in:
- 100% of the references in the texts on Traditional Chinese Medicine
Surprisingly, given this powerful consensus, the need for hot water extraction is ignored by the authors of popular books and articles on medicinal mushrooms. Studies using hot water extracts represent 100% of the cited references for medicinal fungi and immune health in the three most recent books on medicinal mushrooms, yet none of the authors make this crucial point within the text of their books.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of medicinal mushroom supplements sold on the U.S. market are un-extracted mushrooms or un-extracted mycelium, products that have no supporting research for immune health issues.
